    Hey distant cuz,
Sorry about your house & material possessions & really happy you & your family are all doing well. Nell was going through lots of old photos after Bill passed & Doug Pickett has done some family tree research. You might get copies or leads for things from your past from them or other relatives, friends, & fans. Let me know if I can help with anything. Take care.

God bless you and your family. I have dealt with a fire before and it changes your outlook when everyone gets out safety-you understand the meaning of a miracle, because of how fast a fire spreads, you can’t imagine that anyone can get out of “that”. So sorry about the loss of your home. A few years ago I lost my home to fire as well. We were blessed that we were out of town when it happened. Ours was a total loss as well. The things that we miss the most are not the things that had monetary value. It’s the centimental things that can not be replaced. The most important thing is that your family is safe. From the time of the loss of my home I have had a different perspective about what is most important. It’s the people we love. Things can be replaced … people can’t. My children were 12 and 15 at the time. It changed the way they prioritize everything in their lives. I know it hurts terribly bad right now but time will ease the pain. Keep the family close and love each other. I will keep each of you in my prayers. At the time that I lost my home, it helped a lot to talk with someone that had lived through the same experience. Since that time I have reached out to others in the same situation and want you to know that I am here for you… only an email away.

terrible loss to the family but everyone was safe

  51. Heather Jacoby Says:

My parents had a house fire when I was living in another city. It was hard, because I couldn’t come home to help (asthma and they were having enough troubles finding a place to stay at the time).

I did so much insurance paperwork to help out, because I knew what was in the house, too. Day in, day out.

Nobody was hurt in our fire, which was a real blessing. It was determined to be electrical, and the house was only about 10 years old and had passed inspection when my parents bought it about 5 years before the fire.

Anyhow, the hardest thing to understand was that there was clearly a “before the fire” and “after the fire.” We still refer to everything that way, years later.

No people were hurt in the fire, but we lost pets, which was hard. We lost pictures, and mom’s wedding dress, and I lost a book I used to read with my pappy. Memories more than material things… it was hard to lose those things which had a special meaning to them.

My heart goes out to you and your family. I’m just glad everyone was safe. I know you’ll be in for rough times and exhaustion, so sending prayers for strength and endurance and comfort.
